TracFone Wireless Inc. is the largest prepaid cell phone provider in the U.S., and has been the leader in the 10 years since it was founded. TracFone is a subsidiary of America Movil, the fourth largest cell phone company in the world, and the largest in all of the Americas with more than 141 million cell phone subscribers.

One reason for TracFone's success has been their exclusive focus on prepaid cell phones. Unlike most other prepaid providers in the US (who are also contract providers),they are not interested in converting users to a contract. TracFone believes that cell phone ownership is an important tool for individual success in today's world, and that everyone should have one as a right, without the need for a contract or a high credit rating.

About TracFone

Formerly known as Topp Telecom Inc., it was a prepaid company created in 1996 and established in Miami, Florida. The company has since grown into the prepaid leader of the United States.
In February 1999, Topp received a major infusion of capital from Telefonos de Mexico , Mexico's largest telephone company and supplier of telephone services throughout Latin America.
In 2000, Telmex spun off their mobile unit, creating América Móvil , which would be free to develop as its own business as an independent entity becoming Topp Telecom a subsidiary of the new Mexican mobile company. In November 2000, Topp Telecom Inc. has changed its name to TracFone Wireless Inc.

"I wanted to buy phone for my wife so that we can be in touch when she goes for after school activities for my kids or for shopping. After reading reviews on the net and studying all the available deals, I decided to go for "Tracfone". Since we may be using not more than 15 minutes per week, cost per minute was not our selection criteria but ease of using, buying minutes etc. I started the tracfone service after following the instructions given in the booklet, which were easy to understand. Though it was lot of digits to be punched, since it was one time, I did not care. I did it online. Buying minutes was also easy online. "No contracts, no penalties, no monthly bills, no roaming, Minutes do not expire each month, voicemail notification of messages received is almost always nearly instantaneous, signal strength is very good due to Tracfone's contracts with various carriers. If you invest in the annual plan and one time double minutes programs, cost of use is very reasonable, especially during "prime time" and to other countries (no extra cost). My wife and I have been customers for years and Tracfone's customers.

"I have been using tracfone and buying and reloading the phone is easy, You can even buy the minutes straight from your phone which makes it convienant if you don't want to shop online or get out to buy them. I have never had a problem receiving my airtime or bonus air time.
